Depending on how far from the wall that first support board is, may have flex in the boards near the door area. Can cause popped nails etc. I'd build a little extra support in that area and have that first one far away enough to allow any future works on those lines to be done safely.

I'm hoping I can get it quite close to the wall so there's not much flex, but you raise a good point in that there may need to be works done on that area in future.

Is your soil “sand”? Were there concrete footings for outer beam on old deck? Is the foundation concrete (below the brick, above the sand)? How old is the house and is there a basement? crawlspace? slab on grade?

It is very sandy yes! The old deck had a ledger board, then support posts which were in steel stirrups and concrete. I'm planning on doing the same for the posts but just not sure if a ledger board is absolutely necessary or if I can do posts about 5-10cm away from the house.
