Elder Neighbor Needing Assistance
Hi Everyone!
Firstly, please let me know if there's a more appropriate sub-reddit to post this in, but I figured this would be the most relevant community. In September, I moved to a new spot on 97th & Madison and within a week of settling in one of my downstairs neighbors stopped by to say hello and welcome me to the building. I discovered she is essentially the "mom" of the building, having lived her for multiple decades. She lived alone with her dog and 3 cats, but I think she sees everyone here and her children which I find super sweet given my own grandmother acts in a similar capacity in her apartment in the UWS.
Yesterday she informed me that her dog had passed away after several days of being ill (i.e. not being able to stand, seizures, etc.) Already in a state of grief and loss, as she left the hospital she was handed a bill in excess of $10,000. Her friends and family gave her the idea to set up a gofundme, and when she posted about it in a group on Facebook (as our elders love to do) it was removed because they did not want people to think it was a scam. As a result, I'm passing the information along to everyone here. If you have anything you could share, I know she'd be extremely grateful and if not, I just appreciate you taking the time to read this post!
