Old man’s treatment

I was on a rewatch and I’ve finished season 1 again and the ending brought me to the question why didn’t the old man spend money on treatment? As he was talking to Gi-Hun saying he had so much money he didn’t know what to do with it and so thus he started the games. Instead of trying to have a reason to have fun with the money why didn’t he just spend it on treatment?
