My boyfriend can't wake up without assistance a lot of times

He will "wake up" but he feels himself moving but isn't actually moving and he can see all around him as if he is moving but in actuality he is still and making sounds to signal for help and I have to shake him awake or else he won't wake up fully. Is this sleep paralysis?
