How To Fully Use Remote Play on PS3 with Vita. (CUSTOM FIRMWARE PS3)

Remote play functionality works at home and away from home still, with any game, you just need to tweak a few network settings, and you need to manipulate the game parameters for each game you'd like to be compatible with remote play. The latter is actually not crazy hard if you've already gone through putting CFW on your ps3.

Setup:

  • You need a ps3 on custom firmware (cfw) tutorials, tutorials. I reccomend evilnat cfw.

-(for getting any game to work) an ftp program on your laptop and making sure your ps3 has multiman or some other way to host an ftp server. Tutorials on setting up ftp can be found

  • A PSVITA, no need to mod this system for our purposes of remote play

-Properly Register your vita to the ps3, as per usual

NETWORK SETTINGS

In order to run remote play ACTUALLY away from home, you need to do 2 things on your home network to make sure things actually run properly and as smoothly as possible.

If you have a major ISP, they typically have these setting on their app or on their website when you sign in, otherwise try typing in your routers IP address in a browser on pc or maybe your phone to see if you can change your router settings that way.

1 - Reserve your PS3s IP address on your home network. You basically just find the setting, choose your PS3s ip out of connected devices (there may even be the full name of the console listed for ease) and tick it on. Remember to leave ip as automatic on your ps3 when you set it up.

2 - manually forward the necessary network ports from your router to the PS3. More specifically and crucially, make sure that you forward port 9293 which is responsible for remote play connectivity.

In your router settings somewhere you'll find port forwarding, again make sure to choose your ps3 under its ip or name, and then when you configure the port to forward it'll be like this:

Internal:

External:

(A selection for) UDP, TCP, or both.

Put 9293 in both empty values, and set UDP AND TCP.

This alone should make sure you can use remote play from anywhere like it should, as long as you set up remote play mode and have your general remote play settings good on your console.

You can forward a few other ports not listed here just to be 100% sure your ps3 is receiving everything, though those don't really ever have an issue.

I really hope this helps get people on their ps3s from wherever! Next.

Getting any Game to work

Essentially there is a file in every game called param.sfo that tells each game to run at a certain resolution, wether it USES REMOTE PLAY, and a few more things. We need to get that file out, change that remote play setting, and put it back in the game.

**Before starting this understand that you need to have your game(s) in file/folder format, also called jb format, instead of a .ISO (disc) file. You can also find out online how to do this if you have no idea.

Also make sure that your game files that are in JB format now, go to devhdd0/GAMES and not /PS3ISO when everything is said and done.***

1 - Get a program called Playstation System File Object Editor (SFO editor) on your pc and run it. Make sure it's the playstation sfo editor. It'll display a little window/program that shows the different parameters that can be set in little ticks or boxes. One of those should be one that says something like psp remote play enabled. (This works for vita). That's what we need to change, but we need to select the param.sfo file from our game and load it to the program so we can change it.

2 - connect your pc to your ps3 via ftp and get your param.sfo file from your game files. It should be found in your game files wherever you have them, probably devhdd0/GAMES or maybe /PS3ISO if your ps3 for some reason has it there. So inside your game, go into the folder that has the name of your game, then go into the PS3_GAME folder, and you should see PARAM.SFO in there. note that this name has to remain unchanged. Download this to your pc somewhere you'll can find it.

  1. Go into your SFO and select load/choose file and select that param.sfo. your title name and already selected stuff on it should be ticked in the boxes. Tick on the remote play setting. (If already ticked, untick and tick it again) then hit the save button and again save it where you can find it/not mix it up with the original if you want to keep it safe, and make sure to hit replace file if you're just gonna be overwriting the original.

  2. Delete the original param.sfo in your original game file and Put the new one in the folder where it was.

YOU SHOULD BE DONE.

Note:

Safely disable syscalls/safely sign in to psn before starting remote play over internet away from home.

You need to load up the game onto your xmb you'd want to play first with multiman or whatnot, it's essentially one game at a time, but any game.

Test everything out and see if it works.
