Lifelong Samsung User, Just Switched
I've been using Galaxy devices basically since Android has been a thing. Most recently had an S20+ but the battery has been terrible lately. Despite showing 80% battery health, it needs to be charged several times a day and when I hit 15%, it's basically dead. Was looking at a refurb S23U for a minute, waiting to see if they dropped in price with the S25 came out.
After a lot of research, I decided I didn't need an S-Pen, I don't use my camera all that much, and I really just wanted a powerhouse phone with great battery and fast charging, so I decided to spend about the same for a new OP 12R.
First impressions..
I love it. The camera may not be the best in class, but I don't know that. It's a ton better than my S20+. I've been using Nova Launcher forever bc I was never a fan of One UI and I honestly really like Oxygen OS so far. It's snappy and offers a lot of customization that One UI didn't. Not quite the level of customization that Nova has, but definitely enough for an OEM OS. Just going to take a little getting used to doing things differently- not necessarily slower.
Phone feels great, and the battery is wild compared to what I was dealing with.
Only things I will need to get used to/have questions about are:
- The Edge Panels I really used a lot with my Samsung. I made folders for a few of my dock icons on my OP so that's just as fast, but any good substitute for panels if I wanted to go that way?
- Passwords. I used Google password manager, but also had a lot on Samsung Pass. Any recommendations for a 3rd party for when Google manager doesn't support it?
- Photos/Gallery. Is the default gallery app just Google photos, or is there a native app for photo/video browsing?
- Time on Lock/Notification Pulldown. The 1's are red, which I get are for OnePlus, but it looks out of place with the rest of my theme. Any way to just make the 1's white like the rest of the time?
- Camera shortcut. With Nova, I had app drawer set to launch on swipe up, camera on swipe down. Are there any native camera shortcuts I can use other than double clicking the power button?
Overall, naturally going to be some muscle memory retraining and getting used to, but day 1 I am really enjoying it and it's nice to try something different. The battery and charging are a real game changer, and once I get used to the OS and/or find some ways to replicate what I'm used to, I'm going to be very happy- especially after seeing the (lack) of new features in the S25U.
Thanks for any suggestions to make the experience more familiar, and glad to join the community!
