Hate the long time sentiment “teachers don’t do it for the money”
Had a car inspection this morning. Thought everything would go mildly ok as I hadn’t noticed or experienced any issues while driving and take good care of my automobile. I see my service guy coming over thinking it’ll be to tell me it’s done and I’m good to go…nope it was to gently break the news that I need $2,000 of work and new tires which will be at least another $500+. I immediately go into panic mode thinking there’s no way in hell am I going to pay for this without taking it from savings that meant for emergencies not general maintenance. But I have no choice because I’m essentially creeping into poverty since I took an instructor role at a college last semester. I essentially make minimum wage. If I calculated it for the actual amount of hours I spend doing work related tasks, it would be under $5/hr. How do the powers that be pretend they don’t know why there aren’t enough instructors? Making 50-60% less than what RNs make working in almost any other capacity is outrageous and it shouldn’t be this way. Having good intentions doesn’t pay bills. You shouldn’t need to be independently wealthy to teach. Thanks for reading my rant. Now I get to take the car back home and start looking up how to sell feet pics vs an organ to pay to keep my car running so I can get to my job that doesn’t pay enough to live 😖
