Circulating Nurse Specimen Error. I need advice.

I'm a new graduate nurse in the OR. I recently came off orientation 3 weeks ago. Today I made a specimen error and I'm beating myself up a lot about it.

I was giving another circulating nurse a break towards the end of my shift, by this time the surgeon was already closing and final count was done. The nurse had mentioned that there are microbiology specimens on the prep stand ready to be sent to pathology and that I need to bring them to lab. I got the patient off the OR bed and gave report to PACU. I forgot about the specimen in the room and when the nurse came back to the room to turn over, they scolded me about it saying that I should be careful because this can cause me my license.

These nurses were really supportive of me during my orientation process, and I'm really afraid that I've lost their trust. I'm trying to see if other circulating/OR nurses on here have any advice on avoiding these types of errors from happening. I don't know if this makes me a bad nurse, I only know that I'm still learning.
