Quicken Simplifi updates (incl. rollover!) and why I hope you’ll consider it when Mint shuts down
Hi everyone. Lee from Quicken here. With Mint’s imminent shutdown, I just want to take a moment to share some updates on Quicken Simplifi. Since the initial announcement, we’ve been listening to all your feedback and prioritizing the updates you’ve asked for. Here’s where we are now.
Mint data import: We’ve built a Chrome extension that lets you download MORE data from Mint than Mint itself does. If you want to bring your Mint data with you and you haven’t used the extension yet, go do that now. It lets you export more detailed transaction and investment history than any other solution.
Rollovers: On Monday, the ability to roll over unused or overused funds in your Planned Spending categories began rolling out to Early Access users, and will soon be available to everyone! You’ll be able to customize those categories however you’d like, giving you access to rollovers for just about anything you can think of. (And for those of you who like the fact that Simplifi doesn’t force you into traditional category budgeting, don’t worry. Both rollovers and Planned Spending are totally optional).
Credit Score: we also recently rolled out a built-in credit score feature — you can see your score at a glance, or tap in for more detail so you can find out what’s affecting your score without ever leaving the app. You can even customize your dashboard to include your score so it’s right there when you log in. Today it’s on web. It’ll be added to mobile as a customizable view on your dashboard next.
Dark Mode: While Dark Mode was already available on web, we launched it in the mobile app to an adoption rate of 60% in the first week!
Apple Card support: Apple’s recent changes have now made it possible to sync to Apple Card accounts – something many of you have been asking for. Expect this upgrade to roll out next!
A redesign of transaction Splits: the new splits screen makes calculating and performing splits way more efficient. You can automatically divide the split evenly between all lines, or customize it. A “left to split” amount calculates the remainder each time you add an amount to a line.
Custom frequencies for recurring transactions: We've added a bunch of new frequency options, such as 'Every X days', Every X weeks', etc., as well as 'One-time payment' and 'Multiple fixed dates' options. You can learn more about this and the transaction splits redesign here.
I also want to highlight a few features I see people asking for that Simplifi already does (and is far superior at doing IMO):
- Projected cash flow: Quicken Simplifi’s projected cash flows let you dive into any account and see how balances will be affected by upcoming income, bills, and subscriptions, helping you plan ahead. In the mobile app, this is displayed as a list of upcoming transactions and resulting balances by date. The web app adds line graphs as well.
- Custom watchlists: Track and monitor specific areas of spending, so you can focus more closely on anything you want to. They can be based on any payee, category, or tag. For example, I set one watchlist to monitor home goods I bought from Instagram and TikTok ads (I know, I know), so I can see over time how it affects my spending.
- Investment tracking: Detailed, customizable charts and graphs show you your holdings, balances, and investment performance over time (both TWR and IRR) — for your entire portfolio as well as comparisons across each account. You can even get an individualized news feed in the app, based on your specific holdings.
- Left to spend: the reason we say Simplifi has a Spending Plan, rather than a budget, is that we take a top-down approach to managing your money. While you can set it up like a traditional budget (planning out every category), you can also just start at the top with your bills and savings goals, then add any other planned expenses (like groceries), and spend the rest however you want. Simplifi keeps up with your spending and shows you at a glance how much you have left for the rest of the month — both the total and per day.
There’s a lot more to come this year — watch for more updates on what’s in the works over at r/simplifimoney.
Edit: I should also mention that Quicken Simplifi is still 50% off for now if you're still considering switching. We also offer a 30-day guarantee.
