People are frustrated because of lack of interaction
There is a lot of disgruntlement about the meta on this sub and then a lot of disgruntlement about people's disgruntlement. That they will never be happy.
So I wanted to give a shot at explaining why so many people (including me) are just not having fun/are frustrated.
Main point is lack of interaction. Hearthstone always had fewer avenues for interaction than other ccg. You cannot interact with opponent in their turn other than secrets. You lack a lot of deck disruption like actual counterspells, discards, deck manipulation etc.
Because of the lack of these avenues, the game should cherish the main avenue it has : the board.
When I look at what people are frustrated with, it is mostly the fact that most decks completely ignore the board.
- On one hand you have decks that OTK you in 1 turn without any minions on board prior, thus making board obsolete
- On the other hand you have power creep of removal spells, making it pretty much impossible for stuff to stick
- Power creep of even regular minions causes even board based matchups to be one sided. One side dominates the other. And why is that? This game has attacker privilege. Attacker chooses which enemy minions to attack, so they always come out on top. This is a big issue with the game imo, as it causes snowballing
Frankly, the game COULD work with these issues, if the design team was absolutely godly and balanced it extremely well. But we know they aren't and we have the mess it is now.
If I had a choice, I would remove almost all OTK (game has no tools to interact with them). Nerf removal spells across the board and lower minion power levels. Go back to people using board, thinking about which stuff to trade etc.
Sadly the attacker privilege thing will never change, since you would need to completely rework one of the game base mechanics. I think that it is one of the biggest offenders though.
