teaching help
hello everyone, i have a massive dilemma
my dream is to teach at high-level marching arts organizations (dci/wgi/boa any of probably not all) in the battery field, but coming out of college my experience may not fufill what is enough. i have marched minimally and will not have the opportunity to before i age out, and i do not live near any dca groups. I am currently a senior in high-school, so this is what my experience will look like most likely coming out of college.
1 summer marching bass 5 in open class drum corps
4 seasons of high school marching band on snare
3 seasons of collegiate marching snare (400ish man band, huge drumline)
possibly more at the collegiate level, i am interested in a masters degree/grad assistant, just not sure how all that will tie to marching
i am sure that this experience alone will probably not score me any staff spots at the open/world class level, and i am not interested at working with the corps i had marched with (sketchy staff). i have thought of possibly trying to contact directors at various organizations with hopes of finding ways to intern or work under them; my thought was that this way i could network myself and build my reputation to possibly get on staff. the other possibility i had thought of was through composition, and trying to network myself through writing beats for various groups.
i know what i want to do. i am not just sure on how about i should try to achieve it. any and all help is extremely appreciated
thanks
tldr: high school senior wants to teach percussion with high-level groups but will not be able to march any dci/wgi/boa/dca groups to gain experience, just collegiate drumline stuff. looking for how to network myself into possible experience to get a job teaching.
edit: thanks everyone for your help, i’m rethinking my college situation to maybe march some :)
