How do people actually survive while waiting for SSI?

I’m currently on AND benefits, so I get $217 a month of income. And soon here shortly, 30% of that ($65.10) is going to become a monthly rental payment. That gives me $151.90 a month to work with. And if I get any “gift” money from my parents, it’s considered income and will come out of my AND benefits, and is a huge hassle.

My goal is to save $50 a month, so that I have some cushion for emergencies and such.

How on earth do people survive like this? I’ve only been at this a couple months, and I’m already barely getting by.

Medical stuff alone costs so much money. And trying to occupy my time with crafts and such costs money too. Everything costs so much freaking money.

Any advice? or suggestions? To those of you in a similar situation, how are you getting by? thank you.
