6 weeks post T11-S1 Fusion Experiencing Hip/Groin Pain
TL;DR: Had a T11-S1 fusion on Dec 30 as a revision from a failing 2022 fusion. Initially, recovery was great, with pain and numbness mostly gone. Over the last couple of weeks, back pain has worsened despite a clear X-ray and my neurosurgeon advising PT. Now experiencing new pain lower in my mid-back (S4-6), left hip, groin, and testicles. I have degenerative issues below the fusion site—could this have worsened, possibly requiring more surgery? Pain is severe, to the point where even 10 mg OxyContin IR doesn’t help. Looking for insight.
Hello all, I had a fusion of T11-S1 on December 30th. This was a revision from a T11-12 fusion from 2022 that started to fail due to calcification of the bone among other things and had to have emergent surgery. Following surgery i was doing amazing to be honest, almost all the pain and numbness in my legs were gone even a few hours post op and only really had the normal post op pain. Over the last week to two weeks I’ve been gradually experiencing the pain getting worse in my back and I did a follow up with my neuro and imaging looked good (xray) and he advised start PT etc. however the pain continues to worsen and I’m also getting more pain in the mid back but lower than surgical site, more in line with S4-5/6 and as of the last 24 hours pain in my left hip and groin particularly testicles. I do have degenerative issues with lower back below surgery site so is it possible I’ve made these worse and need additional surgery? It’s limiting my ability to function and at times the pain is so bad I can do nothing but grit my teeth until it eases up. This is also while having access to 10 mg OxyContin IR and I’ve used one while having this pain and those didn’t touch it, to give you a sense of the pain level.
