[lore spoilers] Who was the mage that Jayce encountered?
By now I've commented this on a multitude of different posts. But I thought i'd make a seperate post about it as well.
As the title suggests. We now know that in the timeline where Viktor is stopped from becoming god, it is Viktor who saved Jayce and gave him the rune. But that is not the case originally.
!!I have a TLDR at the bottom of the post for those who dont want details!!
I've seen some other people disprove the bootstrap paradox but I'll explain it in this post as well. If you already know about it you can skip this part.
Explanation/Context:
In the original timeline where Viktor became "god", he decides that this is not the correct way and so, he creates the rune with the memories then decides to travel back in time.
Now, I believe that Viktor jumps to a different universe/timeline, Jayce gets saved by Viktor in this universe, and is given the rune. The world doesnt end in a dystopia because Viktor is now stopped by the rune memories. Now that begs the question, in the original universe, how did Viktor become a god without having saved Jayce, who created hextech?
The universe/timeline where Viktor became god ended in a dystopia and will never be saved, because he cant go back in time without switching universe/timeline. So when Viktor enters another universe he is free to act here without creating the bootstrap paradox. (Here is a video that says multiverse/timelines is a solution)
If we were only talking about one universe it would create the bootstrap paradox. But in our case where multiverse exists there is a universe in which Viktor became "god" without having saved Jayce. This universe is the universe that Jayce entered in Arcane. The original universe.
And then there is the universe that we know, where Jayce was saved by Viktor (who came from the dystopia universe) so that he could create hextech and later stop this universe's Viktor from becoming "god" with the help of the rune that dystopia Viktor gave Jayce.
So technically dystopia Viktor did not save his universe, he saved another universe that he created by going back in time - creating a new timeline/universe. IMO, when he talked about seeing all possibilities, he never created/traveled to the other timelines, he just observed them as possibilities.
So anyway, Viktor shouldnt have been able to become god in the first place (in dystopia universe) because he couldn't have been the one who saved Jayce. Meaning Jayce couldnt have been there to create hextech.
Theory/Possible solution:
This is where my theory comes in, what if Jayce was saved by another person in the original timeline where Viktor became god? Viktor could only become god if Jayce was saved and he in turn creates hextech.
What if the person who saved him had observed timelines just like "god" Viktor had, and also wanted Jayce to create hextech? This person would be able to create a scenario that did just that. However, because this person couldn't have been Viktor, he could only save Jayce but would not be able to create the rune that stopped Viktor from becoming god. Which would create the dystopia timeline.
Where have we seen timeline observers/travelers before? In Zilean lore. In a nutshell Zilean observes timelines and brings people from other timelines to help him find a way to stop/postpone the void from destroying the world. These people have also traversed timelines.
Im calling it, it's one of his disciples who saved Jayce originally. Trust.
TLDR:
There was never a bootstrap paradox, or never a paradox at all, not if you assume there was another person who saved Jayce in the timeline where Viktor became god. This person would have to know of their situation and would want Hextech to become a thing, and the only one we know of who could, is Zilean, Zilean's disciple saved Jayce. Or atleast someone that wasnt Viktor saved Jayce originally.
