What’s the fastest you ever quit a job?
3 days. I was 22 at the time and got a job at a local Hawaiian fast food restaurant. First day was awful because they had more than the normal range of customers ordering food. Second day was somewhat better since I had a bit of fun getting to know the workers. But the third day was when the straw broke the camel’s back. The “supervisor” (if you could even call him that) spent all day criticizing my prep skills, insulting me for asking questions, said how I was so lazy for being so young, and so on. Normally, I tend to brush it off like it’s not a big deal. But this went on for FOUR HOURS STRAIGHT! I threw my work apron and quit on the spot. I was not going to ruin my summer vacation for a crappy job.
I can’t really blame off-cusp Gen Z for quitting without notice. They not only see that you can get fired immediately even for being the best worker, but that even the pay and benefits aren’t worth the mental exhaustion people often get if they’re burnt out.
