Inappropriate alternative song lyrics

I was talking to my teen son tonight and told him we used to sing a version of "On Top of Old Smoky" that would get him expelled if he sang it at school today. He was absolutely horrified when I told him the lyrics, and said it must have been an Alaska thing (lived in Alaska until age 12). I think it was a tail end of Gen X thing. Did anyone else sing it this way?

"On top of old smoky, all covered in blood, I shot my poor teacher with a 44 slug. I went to her funeral. I went to her grave. She still wasn't dead, so I blew off her head."
