Wolves sounding out a new head coach
This is good, but I still think this club’s riddled with major problems from top to bottom.
Owners/Hobbs - the insistency on buying “up and coming players and managers” shows Fosun’s true agenda - profit. This for me is the most damming thing, it leads to an unbalanced squad and is just asking to get relegated. I’m all for seeing young players develop but we also need to balance that with people who are ready to play now. The club’s recruitment strategy and overall agenda since Nuno left is simply asking for us to be relegated
Gary - I did think he was a good tactician and whilst I’ll think he’ll be a good manager one day, the operative words are one day. You simply CANNOT learn your craft in the premier league. He’s a manager who’s only just had his first pre-season so what do we really expect? He needs to get experience in the lower leagues before stepping back up to the PL. His tactics have slipped, our identity has gone, his post-match interview yesterday showed he’s at a loss of what to do (comments on how he’s used every option and can’t find consistency) and most importantly the players have stopped playing for him. I wish him all the success in the future because he seems like a nice guy, but that future needs to be away from our club now
Players - our midfield and attack are class, but our defence is seriously bad. A GK who was all but done with the club, had a few good games but then slipped again to the point he can’t even organise a fucking wall. Senior internationals not communicating with each other, 2nd to every ball, unable to cope with anyone who’s physical and direct. As good as our attacking players are, it’s only really been Cunha and Larsen stepping up (even they’re susceptible to being dragged into having a nothing game). None of the other attackers have really taken their chance once they’ve been given a start, lads like Rodrigo and Forbs I can understand but more senior players like Guedes/Hwang/JRB/Sarabia I have no reason for it. Our best defender is a 34 year old who’s looked completely off it in the last 2 games, not good enough
We’re at a point now where anyone who’s direct and physical we struggle with, we used to be a side that teams hated playing against because of our physicality. No proper investment in our defence for 3 years and it’s no wonder we’ve got the worst defensive record. The worst part is we all know fosun will invest heavily in Jan to keep us up but will then say “all the summer money was spent in January” next season - just fucking get ahead of the problem fosun
The players aren’t holding themselves/Gary accountable, Gary isn’t holding himself/the players accountable and fosun aren’t holding Gary accountable. No wonder we’re looking like getting relegated. Gary needs to go, our defence needs to be improved and this needs to be a serious wake up call to fosun that if you strive for 17th and profit each season, you’ll get relegated
