Alright, why can’t we get Mercy? Seriously

I’m going to use this space to publicly vent.

It’s been the talk of the day, where is Mercy? I think for a majority of fans it’s all we actually wanted out of this reissue. Why can’t we get it. It’s been 20 years.

And I know they are releasing Luckiest Man in the world. But that’s not Mercy. From the promo clip given and Bono’s history, the lyrics are going to be changed akin to a Song of Surrender release. I do not want that. I don’t think anyone wanted that. It doesn’t even sound like it’s going in the direction of the 360 version lyrics which were also pretty good. I looks like the lyrics we actually want are going to be chopped up and used on Happiness and Luckiest Man.

Will both songs still be good. Probably. Will they be the Mercy people wanted. No

Just put an official cleaned up release of Mercy on Spotify.

It baffles my mind. Mercy could and should have been used as the lead promotional single to sell this reissue. It’s a brand name at this point. But not only is it not the lead single. Its name isn’t even used on the album.

Reissues are about 1 thing. 1. Making money. Only fans are going to buy this thing. So from the business side how do you leave the most marketable song name off the album. You could have called the album Mercy and we would have all bought it.

I just really don’t get it.

Appendix:

Alright, as this post has generated some buzz I would like to add an appendix.

I am always for every U2 release. Love them all even when they aren’t good. And I buy lots of them to the detriment of my bank account. I still think the band does a lot of good things.

I’m still excited for this album package. I think it’s much better than the 20th of ATYCLB. And it makes me actually want to buy it.

And U2 songs have seemed to post lyrics making it sound like Luckiest Man won’t change the lyrics of Mercy too much. Which is nice. I’m still happy to get it.

And I understand some people don’t care for the song. Okay then this post doesn’t apply to you regardless.

But why can’t we just call it Mercy. All this hype. All the requests to release it, myself included. Rolling stone magazine has asked U2 to officially release it at some point.

These bonus discs are always about releasing demos and alternate versions anyways. The two songs released today sound like unreleased demos. They’re not polished or finished. I actually like that. So why can’t we get the demo version of Mercy released on Spotify to listen to officially. I’ll take the finished version too. I’d like the live version. (Didn’t like the mic on wide awake in Europe. The raw bootleg versions sounded way better personally)

But can’t we just something release called Mercy.

Like I said. It’s about the money. And I’m way more inclined to buy something called Mercy.
