What are others on SAVE going to do?

Like many others I’m stressed and trying to figure out my next steps. After reading many threads it seems like there are a few options and some mixed reviews on what to do - I’m wondering what others on SAVE are planning to do? Especially others who are 2 years away like me?

My situation: I switched to SAVE when I re-certified in February 2024 because it was the lowest amount. I was already in REPAYE so I would have switched over anyways. I’ll be at 120 employed months by an eligible employer in October 2026.

The options:

  • Stay on SAVE through the forbearance and wait it out. Best case, they will give us this time for PSLF; middle ground we can buy the time back when we get to 120; worst case we all lose time with no buy back option. For this, I’d lose 7+ months until I have to certify again in February.
  • Submit the PDF form to move into another IDR plan. Wait up to 90 days for it to process. Payments will increase, and more for me because I got a huge raise last year. If I switch now, best case I’ll be able to make payments again by November, only losing 4 months.
  • Take a break from PSLF entirely and move to a for profit job for a year or two while this sorts itself out - what’s the point if it’s not even going to count like they promised?

Just wondering what others are planning to do. This is really unfair and infuriating.
