I got banned from commenting on post that broke the rules?

Apparently some post I commented on was breaking a rule on “no questions about xx, people have asked it a million times”, so then I got banned. I assume the other 40 commenters got banned to.

When I messaged the mod asking why, they basically said “dozens of people were commenting on a post that I need to remove, but I’m the only active mod and am about to go on holiday so I’ll unban you when I come back”

There’s no way that makes sense. I’m sorry that one person is struggling to keep up with a massive subreddit (it’s an expat community), but your holiday is also not our problem…

And in any case, I didn’t know commenting on bad posts could get someone banned, is that normal?
