I’m looking for information regarding this WWII portrait drawing of a US officer stationed in North Africa in 1944.
I picked this up from a Craigslist free stuff ad a few years ago in St. Louis, Missouri. While preparing to pack and move, I stumbled upon it and felt compelled to do some research. I took it out of the frame and behind the drawing was a portrait photograph of the officer. That portrait has an inscription on the back that says the gentleman’s name is Jennings Simpson and the photo was taken in St. Louis, MO.
After finding this, I took a closer look at the drawing. The side of the paper is embossed with Johannot-Montgolfiers Annonay. Written on the bottom right corner are the artist’s initials, 1944, and North Africa. The signature is definitely something I’m looking for information about. This is such a beautifully drawing, I’d love to know who created it! Thanks for reading and I’m looking forward to getting some feedback!
