Questions
I have my test booked for October and I was wondering if you could help clarify a few things:
1) When doing the pulling up on the right and reversing manoeuvre will the examiner ask you to do this even if there is a car coming towards you on the right side of the road? Months ago my instructor pointed out two roads locally they usually do this on but told me the examiner would wait for them to be clear before asking to pull up on the right. During a lesson recently my instructor asked me to do this even though there was a car coming towards me on the right, I was confused due to what he previously told me but he grabbed the wheel and told me I had enough time to come over as once I’ve indicated it’s up to them to go around me even if I’m on their side of the road.
He also told me to wait before reversing if there is a car on the the other side of the road (left) but then told me during a different lesson to only wait if they’re coming towards me on the side of the road I am on (right) and the left doesn’t matter.
2) When reverse bay parking he told me to always look behind me over my shoulder when reversing and if I need to check my mirrors I have to be stationary and can then go back to looking behind me. I watched a few driving instructor videos on YouTube and they have said you can look in the mirrors as they are showing behind you when reversing.
3) When pulling up on the left, I usually pull up, put it in neutral and handbrake on. Then when pulling away I put it in first gear, find my biting point, set my gas, check my mirror, signal then handbrake off and pull away. Is this the correct order as the family member I have been doing additional driving with said I should indicate first as mirrors, signal manoeuvre which would be doing the gears etc but wouldn’t that make whoever is behind me think I’m pulling off and infront of them before I’m ready?
