Restaurant Un-Recommendation - KAAPI KOCHI

I’m someone who loves food so much that I actually get excited for the next meal beforehand. Decided to try Kaapi Kochi, Kakkanad after a good Sunday run. Heard from someone that they serve Benne Masala Dosa. Being a fan of Vidhyarthi Bhavan and CTR Benne Dosa and after seeing a good 4.9 google rating I must say I was excited to try the dish from here. But regretted the decision after taking the first bite.

Firstly the dosa batter was clearly from the bottommost part of batter that gets leftover after using the best portion. The other side of dosa was burnt. The masala inside was the regular potato, onion and dal mix used in Kerala masala dosas and not even close to what’s used otherwise. The podi used on the inside layer is the regular idli podi you get locally and not the real red coloured paste used for Benne Masala Dosa. And in totality it was an abomination. The vada was good though. I could eat only one half of it and left. Either it’s just the wrong day or their digital marketing game is on point.

I had a similar experience last Sunday from Andhra Kaaram. I was craving for a good Andhra Meal. Being a fan of Nagarjuna and Nandana Palace meals I was expecting a decent one from here. But their meal ended up being a terrible disappointment. Veg Andhra meal had 4 bland curries and out of which two were just some masala mixed in water. Even the pappu they served was mediocre. The meal was nowhere close to what you get from Nagarjuna. I’m surprised at the mediocrity of the restaurant which claim to serve authentic regional cuisine even after the guy running the place is having Andhra roots. And yes, their marketing is so strong that the restaurant gets endorsed quite frequently by food vloggers.
