Marbug Virus
There has been an outbreak of the Marbug Virus in Rwanda, with a total of 66 confirmed cases and 15 deaths. The outbreak was declared on 24th December 2024. It's most defining symptom is haemorrhagic fever, characterized by severe bleeding from orifices such as the nose, gums and injection sites, as well as internal bleeding. Currently, there is no approved vaccine for the disease. The WHO has assessed the risk of its outbreak as High, on the regional level. Kenya should therefore, be on alert and begin finding ways to mitigate a possible outbreak.
