Going to learn Hindi mostly from scratch. Is it worth shelling out extra money for the latest edition of Complete Hindi? Or stick to the Teach Yourself Hindi version from the 90s?

Hi all, I'm an Indian brought up in the US that is trying to learn Hindi. The extent of my Hindi knowledge is that I can understand it when my parents speak or when coworkers speak in basic watercooler talk. I used to know how to recognize the characters as a kid, but I have completely forgotten (I picked up Read and Write Hindi Script and plan to finish before actually learning the grammar/vocab).

I have come across 2 resources being recommended. One is Teach Yourself Hindi, the other is Complete Hindi. From what I can gather, it seems the latter is just the newest edition of the former.

Here is the problem. The latter one is quite pricey, even on Thriftbooks, HPB, eBay, etc. It is also not available at any local second hand bookstores I've been to. I did manage to find the PDF online, but it's through archive.org and uses a DRM that is very difficult to remove (there is another method of saving using some tool that saves all of the images and combines them into a pdf, but I can't be bothered to figure that out)

The former, however? Very cheap, and even then, I found it at my local library for free. I just don't know how many major changes the author would've made to make this version obsolete, and I can't even find a version difference list anywhere like I can easily find with the Japanese textbooks. I guess learning Hindi just isn't that popular.

People who have used the book to learn Hindi, or have some familiarity with it, is it absolutely imperative that I get the latest edition? Through trying to save that archive.org copy or just spending the money? Or should the older edition work fine?
