Ted’s major fumbles (major fumbles 🫡), in no particular order

In the words of Barney Stinson: “not a great closer, Ted”.

Honestly, there’s even more that I could have included but didn’t- like his Love Solutions match that he stood up. I also thought abt adding Natalie, Jen, Naomi, and Marybeth; but at least in those cases the breakup had a more legitimate reason; and/ or it was initiated by the woman, not by Ted.

Every time Ted got a legitimate shot at love, he self-sabotaged it. In spite of him always going on abt settling down; he never really wanted to. Instead, he’d just hyper-fixate on unavailable women (namely Robin, but also Karen, Stella, Zoey, and Jeanette). He’d pursue them to no end; turning his back on all the other women who he might actually have had a real chance with. It’s actually a really common defense mechanism for ppl w/ commitment issues.

Ted wants what he can’t have; bc he doesn’t know what it is that he truly wants. He can’t make up his mind; and so instead he sends mixed signals, and he behaves in ways that are ambivalent, contradictory, and hypocritical. What’s weird is that he never gets called out on it. What’s even weirder is that Robin constantly gets called out on it.
