Does anyone else cringe at Luke and Christopher's physical fight in s7?

Season 7, episode 10 "Merry Fisticuffs." Every time I watch this scene, I cringe. I completely understand the whole backstory and the tension between the two men in Lorelai's life. Luke had her and then lost her to Christopher, and even though Chris is married to her, he knows she compares him to Luke and knows the town compares him to Luke. They have very valid reasons not to like each other based on the storyline. But the fact that they just see each other across the town square and, without words, simultaneously decide that they need to have it out was just weird and out of place to me. Especially since the episode focuses on Luke's decision to fight Anna to keep April in his life, I don't get why he's fighting Chris when there was no prior context in this episode about him being angry that Lorelai married someone else. I think I would have preferred they had a verbal sparring match than the awkward, silent physical fight that had no rhyme or reason for happening. What are your thoughts on this scene? I'd love to see it from another perspective.
