Queer in the 80s?

Out of curiosity, who here was out in the 80s? Who also came of age during the AIDS crisis? I'm curious to hear everyone's stories. I often feel a bit alone in those experiences. I was out from as far back as Freshman year of high school, also a punk kid. I was terrorized kind of relentlessly and dropped out at the beginning of Junior year as a result. I went to two high schools and finally adult school to try to finish out a GED program but got horribly bullied there, too. I was a punk kid but also a staunch pacifist and very meek from having grown up with zero self esteem due to my chaotic and violent upbringing. Not a sob story, just my history. I'd like to hear your stories!
