What the fresh hell is happening with the recording feature at the moment?

I've used it for several years now with no issues until the last few months.

Whenever I try to capture the last 15 minutes of footage, it never works with any consistency now. Sometimes it records a 2-second clip, sometimes I press it and it seems to "wake it up" and it records a 3-second clip, then works for a bit, then back to nothing recording. If I alt-tab out of the game, it screws up the recording and it breaks.

If I kill a boss (insert XYZ game here) and press to capture it, and it doesn't work with 100% reliability, this feature is as good as dead and as of now it it works near 0% of the time.

And no, I don't have any DRM running.
