fallout 4 doesnt feel alive like fallout new vegas. and the story sucks.

i just started playing fallout 4 after beating fallout new vegas. and for me it just doesnt hook me like new vegas did. and it lacks a vibe. and it gives me no real reason to care about my son. the characters feel hollow. can people explain how they enjoy it? im not judging anyone for enjoying it.
