Connected Phone Media Control?

In my pre lci non-idrive E90 I use a bluetooth aux connector to stream audio to the car.

This method works great except for the fact that the only way to control the media is on my phone. I can control the volume through the steering wheel while on aux but can't change tracks which is the only annoying part.

Are there any other audio solutions out there for controlling media that doesn't involve getting a whole new head unit for my stereo? How do you guys play music in your car?
