I love both Partied Up and Split-Party scenarios, how about you?
I have a good time when everyone is running together and following the story, all looking after each other with a common cause. They argue, bicker, and banter while I just sit back with a grin at all of the subtle things I threw out being mulled over.
I also REALLY love when my players are doing their own things around the world. I absolutely love dropping cliffhangers on them and "cutting" to the next player, and seeing the look on everyone's face as the player we are now focused on tries to regroup their thoughts. It is so rewarding to see how into other story lines people are, and everybody is excited for everyone else's turns because they are invested in the plot and world-building their character isn't able to reasonably interact with.
What are your opinions fellow DMs? Do you hate when your players split? How do you go about reigning them back together if you do?
Players, how do you feel about being split up? Do you enjoy it or feel obligated to try and get back to each other?
Would love to hear from all perspectives.
