Doctor Won't Operate on Hernia Unless Skin Clears Up – Help!
My brother (23, M) with Down syndrome has been dealing with a skin condition for the past 7-8 years. Every dermatologist we've seen has diagnosed it as scabies, but I’m not convinced that’s the issue, especially since the scabies treatments never work. Now, he needs hernia surgery, but the surgeon won’t proceed until his active breakouts clear up. The latest dermatologist has again diagnosed scabies, but the medication hasn't helped.
A few additional details:
- He can't seem to answer if his skin itches or not. I've never seen him actively scratching, but sometimes he mentions that it itches.
- We’re not aware of any specific allergies, and we follow a vegetarian diet (if that could be a factor).
- Hygiene isn't an issue — he showers twice a day, every day.
- For moisturizers, he used to apply coconut oil (recommended by a dermatologist) but now uses a paraben-free moisturizer.
Any advice or suggestions on what this could be and how to get it treated? We’re getting really frustrated and need some guidance .
