anorectal manometry experience

I had my ARM this morning, and I'm happy to report that it was nowhere near as awful as I had envisioned. The whole thing was over with in about 15 minutes. The care team was all female - a nurse, a gastroenterologist, and a resident (I'm female as well). They made me feel very comfortable about being open about my past traumatic experiences with other procedures, and told me that if I felt pain at any point to let them know and they would stop.

There were several parts to the test - a rectal exam and having to squeeze/push two times during the exam; a catheter and having to squeeze/push two times; a catheter with a tip that inflates with air when I had to tell them when it felt like gas, when it felt like needing to go, and when it felt like urgency; and the last part was the (infamous?) "poop out a balloon" (which I failed). While the whole thing was a bit uncomfortable, the only time I felt any pain at all was during the balloon bit (at which point I stopped pushing and gave up).

I don't have results yet, but based on that last part I'm guessing pelvic floor PT is where this will go. Happy to answer anyone's questions if I can!
