NCAA Player Injured While Fouled, makes the basket, can't shoot his free throw - Can He Return to the game If He Can't Shoot His Free Throw?
Hello.
I am trying to get a question answered for a game I attended tonight. I was at the NMSU/Kennesaw State game and the player for Kennesaw State, Simeon Cottle pulled up lame after a shot that resulted in an AND-1 free throw. TV Timeout occurs while the trainers are working on him. He is hobbling and helped to the sidelines for the rest of the first half. It looks really bad.
Someone else shoots his AND-1 free throw for him.
He comes back in the second half and plays relatively well, knocking a couple of threes.
My question is: I remember Klay Thompson in the NBA tearing his ACL in the finals and still shooting his free throws to make sure he is eligible to play. Is that not the case in Division 1 NCAA Basketball? Seemed like when he couldn't complete the "play" (the free throw) that he's done at that point
It was a common foul fwiw.
I thought I knew ball, but guess not, as half my friends say he shouldn't have come back in, and the others unsure but see no reason why he couldn't.
Help me! :) Thank you so much!
