Without the bad tropes, the concept of "oversaturation" doesn't have any teeth!
Say I just finished a series and ended up absolutely LOVING it! You know what I want to watch next? A show a lot like it.
When I finished Owl House, you know what was next on my list? Amphibia! I watched both within 3 months! Why? Because Amphibia was GOOD!
I recently finished Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Explorers of Sky, and you know what I still want to do right this second? Play another monster isekai where you start a career as a cop and go on adventures with a timid partner as you find out more about what happened to you!
Meanwhile, I didn't give up on Mushoku Tensei because it was "just another fantasy reincarnation isekai" or whatever. I gave up because of awful tropes and I lost interest in the protagonist's "growth."
I was iffy about it because of the synopsis and rating, and I was proven right in ONE episode! But you know what? I gave it a chance because I thought it'd be a redemption arc with cool animation and magic! A story of a piece of crap who promises to apply himself and improve! You know what I thought that meant doing? NOT tying up and sexually assaulting girls! In hindsight, I should have called it quits much sooner, but Ruijerd and that fight with Orsted intrigued me too much. I eventually gave up because this anime threw too much garbage in my face. I didn't care that he was another fantasy MC who got reincarnated. I cared about what happened next, but I finally decided I didn't think it had enough for me to like about it.
You know why I'm not tuning in for the MCU anymore? I simply don't watch what I don't think I'll enjoy. I'm sick of characters turning into jokes, the mishandling of right and wrong, etc, because it simply SUCKS!
I will HAPPILY watch another teenage superhero show if I think it's gonna be good!
I will HAPPILY watch another isekai with witches and a sweetheart protagonist if I think it's gonna be good!
I will HAPPILY watch another monster battle anime made to sell merch if I think it's gonna be good!
I will HAPPILY watch another show with humans facing angels and demons if I think it's gonna be good!
I will HAPPILY watch another show with talking animals being a superhero team protecting their home and surprisingly banger songs if I think it's gonna be good! (had a terrible ending though)
Oversaturation as a concept has no strength by itself. The problem is when bad tropes just keep coming!
