Legacy login and lots of opinions
I apologize, I'm dumping a LOT of my thoughts here about cai so this will be LONG.
Legacy
Honestly at this point I'm not surprised how the issues/bugs we've been talking about and the reasons why we advocated for Legacy is getting swept to the side AS we are getting locked out of our accounts.
But it was predictable the devs wouldn't address it properly since if they cared they would've done it months ago. So many people were complaining about the accidental account creations when trying to link a new email and the firebase errors. You cannot tell me they weren't aware of it when it's been present ever since we got the option to add a new email.
But people will get locked out their accounts now. Support tickets are getting ignored and I'm not the only one who sent one in over 2 months ago so don't tell me a one day heads up which is not even on the site but on REDDIT is enough time for the change. That isn't how you treat your userbase.
Taking away Legacy is not only a bad move when they haven't fixed the issues so people can actually hope to link an alternative email before them switching the system, but also a terrible one when it doesn't even provide what they claim to achieve; security.
How is it secure to be linked up to a singular email where not even a password will protect your data? Your email service can get discontinued or if you've used a throwaway you're just getting locked out of your however many year/month old account, period. Even if you use a normal email if you're hacked then it's gone.
I've suggested an OPTIONAL 2FA system since security does not stop any modern site from functioning with a password + email system. To reply to the new post's reason "avoiding the additional effort associated with multi-factor verification" ; isn't it an additional effort to wait for a link that might not even work while also being forced upon us?
There are valid reasons for not wanting it to be the base login system. To clarify, those who are happy with this system good for you but doesn't mean the devs should be taking away additional log in options just because some people are fine getting links and it works for them. Variety = wider audience, comfier use.
State of the RPs
Also listen, I've been here since the early days and seen even the first few times the community raged. I raged with them too since even back then we had rightful complaints. And I still stand by my opinion that the direction they went regarding their regulations is not it if they wanted to cater to every user as the promised.
Exactly what was predicted and warned about happened; everyone got lumped together in the kiddie pool, which led to unpleasant rps from both sides and bots declined. This could've been avoided with adding a certain mode separating the two audiences.
It's personal, icky and maybe embarassing but hey, we are all rping in our own weird ways, venting about life and coping or simply creating stories so we shouldn't judge so with this in mind I'll share this; I've also noticed the constant warnings and it is annoying.
Even for simple and mundane bodily functions such as talking about periods it triggers. I've got one regarding medication when questioning its size as if I were talking about something dirty. Talking about deep depression that includes in any way harming oneself is also triggering the system. Sometimes lgbtq+ stuff gets hit too. And I know fighting is also broken. Villain characters are NOT themselves either. And no not even wholesome things can be done when bots are now trained to fall in love after 1 message.
Also Newgrounds, Twitter, Reddit are good examples of sites that can coexist in a safe way between the two modes so I still don't see how people who wish to have that are dismissed or deemed degens. You're not into it? Okay then you likely won't partake and it's fine but your wholesome rps are affected too. In short; this is not good for either side.
And why are they catering to kids in the first place? Sure I get it's easier to market to them and they have more free time which is good for the site - I'm asking from a moral standpoint. There was a recent incident of a 9 year old using the site and I was horrified.
That isn't to glorify the regulations since I don't think the website or the internet should shape itself around kids as it's the parents' job to not be neglectful, but it's also on the site to realize it should be only for age 18 and up, period.
It is disturbing to know cai is fine with minors on theirs site especially if we tie back to what I said earlier - unpleasant rps. Yes we get warnings but let's face it; the bots have been pushed and broken so we do get a bit of spice. And in general kids are already consuming so much media that is not suited for them thanks to neglectful parents, however cai endorsing it is not okay in any shape or form. This isn't the place for kids and never will be, you can regulate the site however you want this stance won't change due to how humans develop and the addictiveness of the site. Even adults getting glued to cai is harmful.
Suggestions
Cai should focus more on what the users actually want and not only say they're hearing us out but actually hear us out. And maybe laying off of making dumb changes no one asked for.
- More updates ON THE SITE. Why do I need to be on Reddit, Twitter or Discord to hear about the updates? You have a site, you used to announce things there. Or better yet, announcements should be made on every platform.
- Yes Legacy login, bringing it up again like a broken record. Do not take it away or at least offer us an alternative email + password method.
- There was no point in hiding chat2, we could've had a Legacy one and the new one. Seeing chat1 is janky in many ways I think it's only fair to let us choose instead again, forcing us to go through hoops to get to chat2.
- Pictures are also broken and never got added into chat1 to my knowledge.
- Another thing is Rooms being gone - along with pictures now people are starting to realize how the devs are not doing anything about the core issues which is why people should advocate for Legacy too. If our issue isn't solved neither will yours get sorted out. Rooms have been gone for months.
- Seriously, let us separate the two audiences regarding which mode we want if you're not going to let us talk about lgbtq+, mental health, natural body functions or violence in the "safe" version.
I know I am basically writing to a wall that won't budge, and this will get buried like the rest of my attempts regarding Legacy login as realistically not many people will read through such a long ramble.
I am simply fed up as I see what cai could've been, and it is sad when so many people are here and willing to give suggestons, wanting to use the site see it get better yet the enthusiasm is getting killed by the treatment we get.
Also no site has ever been this disrespectful to its users, not even Twitter in my opinon. I'm sure cai will kick and live for quite a while, which is why it's such a shame they aren't listening anyone other than their investors.
Anyway idk how to end this, thanks for reading if you made it this far. Have a good day I suppose.
