What is Turkey's geopolitical endgame?

It is clear there are some powerful political alignments in the Middle East:

  • Iran - Lebanon, Iraq, Yemen, Assadist Syria. They are motivated by bolstering Twelver Shi'i authority in the Middle East.
  • KSA - Strongly aligned with the UAE, Bahrain, and recently Egypt. Historically focused on advancing Wahhabism (KSA), but now becoming more liberal and focussing on local economy and westernisation.
  • Turkey - Aligned with Qatar, and the Muslim Brotherhood. Focused on weakening Kurdistan and spreading soft Islamist power throughout the Middle East.

What does Turkey gain? Obviously they want a friendly neighbour in Syria, Iran and Iraq to protect their domestic interests.

After being repeatedly snubbed by the EU, is this power move designed to position themselves as the kingmakers in the Middle East to advance their economy?
