Is it possible to enjoy this game without online membership?

I just got this game for X-mas and have only been playing for a few days. I don't have an online subscription because I rarely played my Switch so it wasn't worth it. I'm wondering if it's possible to really enjoy this game without one? So far I just fish and pick up weeds lol, still learning and trying to figure out what all there is to do. Thanks!
