Play Before Work

I came across an interesting video on YouTube recently, and then an article this morning about working WITH the ADHD brain instead of against it. The idea is that the ADHD brain needs to have some fun (interest based motivation) first to get the ball rolling on the difficult tasks that we often procrastinate. The advice was to do something fun (that you want to do) first in the day, then that will set you up to do the less pleasant things. This goes against the neurotypical advice of eating the frog first thing instead.

I think I procrastinate sometimes because I have all these hobbies I want to do, and they keep mentally distracting me during the day. It's like I'm afraid to work because I won't have time for the fun stuff. So I put work off and do mindless stuff, thinking about all the fun I could be having but I'm not because I feel guilty for not working. It's a toxic loop.

So I thought I'd try playing before working - give myself permission to do it instead of feeling guilty about it all day. Then dive into the work and hopefully be able to focus on it better because it's all I have left to do. I'm currently in the middle of the day trying this, so I have no idea how it will turn out. It might be a disaster. But since neurotypical advice doesn't work, I thought I'd do the opposite.

Anyone do this or have experience with this?
