Seeking Advice on 1102 Series (Contract Specialist) Career Path
Hi everyone,
I’m reaching out because I’m interested in starting a career in the 1102 series (Contract Specialist). A bit about me: I’m currently on Active Duty in the Navy and living in Virginia. I’ll be separating in August 2025 after serving 8.5 years.
I have a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and a Master’s in Management and Leadership from WGU (Western Governors University). I’m specifically looking at the 1102 Recent Graduate GS-7/9 program as a way to get my foot in the door.
I’ve noticed vacancies in various locations, most of which are outside Virginia. While I’m open to relocating, I’d prefer to stay in Virginia temporarily before eventually moving to Texas, which is where I see myself long-term. Does anyone know if telework or remote positions are available for entry-level roles in this field?
For context, I’m 27 years old, with no kids, and am very flexible with my options. My six-month eligibility mark is February 19th, and I’ve already uploaded my Statement of Service and completed my resume.
If anyone has insight into starting a career with the DOE or suggestions for other entry-level opportunities in this field, I’d really appreciate it. Any advice or recommendations are welcome!
Thanks in advance for your help!
