Student Support
Students from South Africa, America, Australia and the UK have been involved in educational awareness campaigns and research. Students assisted at REST as part of their coursework and often continue to work for REST once they return home. Many return to REST as volunteers.
In addition REST has been approached by a number of establishments in order to provide training for identification of vultures in both Namibia and South Africa. We provide this training at private and governmental institutions.
Educating New Researchers
REST has strong educational links with Polytechnic Namibia who have been providing student placements at REST since 2002. An agreement is being drawn up which will see 5 Namibian field assistants conducting research at REST every year for 4 months each. This scheme has been funded through the UNDP GEF Small Grant Scheme.

VOLUNTEER PROGRAMME
Volunteers have provided a backbone of support for REST since 2002 and feature in the plans for the future. REST will create a strong volunteer organisation with one set of volunteers passing on knowledge to the next.

Volunteers come from outside Namibia and are asked to make a contribution towards running costs to pay for their visit. While they are with us they will be involved in the general animal care programme, monitoring feeding at the vulture restaurant, and making oservations on visiting birds.
Current housing consists of a two bedroom renovated barn with a kitchen, outside flush toilet and a solar shower. Fees for this lodging are US$50.00 per person per week. There are no extra fees for research access etc., but food is not included. Trips into the local town are arranged about once a week, for food shopping, internet café and so on.
If a student or volunteer would like to upgrade their accommodation, they can stay in a single room with private facilities for US$140.00 per week.
